Dexter Series Finale (SPOILERS INCLUDED): Quick Thoughts – Is there Room for a Dexter Movie??

vlcsnap-2013-09-23-21h33m11s108 So, last night we all witnessed the (what was advertised as) stunning conclusion of Dexter. I have to say that at first I wasn’t fond of it, because it is just too tragic, and I was sad about the end of the show already, but it seemed like S#!T completely hit the fan now. But giving it a second thought it actually made sense: Dexter wanted nothing more but to understand how “normal” human beings feel. vlcsnap-2013-09-23-21h32m06s226 His love for Deborah, his commitment to Rita which lead to their son Harrison, and his passion for Hannah awakened his humanity; but instead of enjoying this new side on him, he discovers all the pain that comes with it. After Deb dies, he chooses to punish himself and stay away from everyone he loves in order to keep them safe. It was a bold move to end a series like this, but I definitely understand it. Everything could have ended perfectly but it wouldn’t feel like an episode of Dexter. Plus, this leaves room for a movie, which I would definitely go see.

Now to the downside of this season: Too many unnecessary subplots, like the relationship between Quin and Batista’s sister; characters that didn’t help one bit to move on with the storyline: WHO THE HELL CARED ABOUT MAZUKA’S DAUGHTER?? It would have been smart, if she was the accomplice for Saxon, but nooooo, she just came for a few episodes and left. But the probably silliest and most frustrating fact was this: Hannah is a wanted criminal, yet it doesn’t cross her mind to wear a wig and contact lenses, or maybe glasses. Almost every episode I yelled at the TV screen, “Get a damn wig, girl!” But she just never listened.

As far as plot holes go this season was probably one of the weaker ones, however, I was more drawn to it than let’s say season 5, which fell a little short after the banging and jaw dropping season 4 finale, which is – hands down- the best of all seasons. All in all this season was worth watching, and the ending is not to love, but definitely tolerate. But I am sure a lot of people will hate it!
