1. Golden Girls (1985-1992)

The Golden Girls is the mother of all funny TV-Shows. There has hardly been a comedy that reached the bar of this show. Get ready to laugh hard. Bea Arthur – who gave the show the right amount of dry humor and sarcasm – decided to leave the show after 7 years which was the end of The Golden Girls. The spin-off Golden Palace didn’t pay off, so they only aired one season.

Storyline:
Blanche (Rue McClanahan) and her roommates Rose (Betty White), Dorothy (Bea Arthur) and Dorothy’s mother Sophia (Estelle Getty) are either widowed or divorced. While Blanche is having one sexual adventure after the other, Dorothy is looking for a soul mate after she has been living with the wrong man for the wrong reasons for 38 years. Rose, who is the “blond” and gullible one of the group, sees everything in a very positive way and tries to always keep the quartet together. Sophia completes the group and is always ready to give advice to one of her girls, but doesn’t hesitate to shoot out one of her snappy and straight- forward comments at any moment she gets. A group to love.

2. The King of Queens (1998-2007)

I wasn’t quite sure if The King of Queens had potential when I saw it the first time, but I am so glad I stuck with it. Now it is one of my favorite TV-Shows, and I can watch over and over again. I love shows where every character is funny in his own way. This show delivers in every possible way.

Storyline:
Doug (Kevin James) agrees with his wife Carry (Leah Remini) to let his father-in law Arthur (Jerry Stiller) stay with them, after he has burned down his house. The result: Arthur gets them in the worst possible situations every other day, and the days he doesn’t, it’s Doug’s turn to create some kind of disaster while Carry tries to keep things together.

3. Modern Family (2009- )

Who cares about stereotypes if it’s done in a smart and funny way?!

Storyline:
Claire (Julie Bowen) and her husband Phil (Ty Burrell) are trying to keep their 3 children under control. Claire’s way is to be strict but fair, while Phil is trying to be the cool dad. Claire’s gay brother Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and his partner Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) have just adopted a baby girl from Vietnam. Mitchell is a respected lawyer and Cameron the crazy dad who loves to take photoshoots with costume changes with their little princess. Jay (Ed O’Neill) is Claire’s and Mitchell’s father and just got remarried to a much younger woman from Colombia – Gloria (Sofía Vergara). Gloria brings a 10- year old boy (Rico Rodriguez) in their relationship, who seems way too mature for his age.

4. Hot in Cleveland (2010- )

As hilarious as the three leading ladies of Hot in Cleveland are, I don’t think the show would survive without Betty White. She is basically like Estelle Getty in The Golden Girls: The heart of the show. I love my Betty White.

Storyline:
A washed out soap opera star (Wendie Malick ), a writer (Valerie Bertinelli) and a celebrity eyebrow plugger (Jane Leeves) – all in their forties – find a new life in Cleveland – far away from the glamorous world of L.A.
But the house they decide to rent comes with a caretaker (Betty White), who is a beautiful nightmare.

5. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990-1996)

This show doesn’t need any introduction, because I am sure everyone knows it! I grew up with this show and even watched the re-runs. It still makes me laugh today.

6. 2 Broke Girls (2011- )

Is there anyone or anything these two don’t poke fun at? I love this show, and if they keep up this pace I am sure they will be successful for a long time!

Storyline:
Two waitresses try to open a successful cupcake business and live their dream. While Max grew up under the worst circumstances and feels content in her situation, Caroline -a former heiress who has just lost all of her money – lives in her own little perfect world, and thinks with a little hope and fairydust everything is possible. Two worlds. One Goal.

7. Friends (1994-2004)

Another wonderful show that never gets old.

Storyline:
Six friends from differnt backgrounds get themselves and each other in the funniest sitiuations. They fight, they laugh but at the end of the day they always stick together.

8. Girlfriends (2005-2006)

Sometimes Funny, sometimes sad, but never boring!

Rating: 9/10

Storyline:
Four girlfriends in their thirties: Joan (Tracee Ellis Ross) is looking for true love, Maya (Golden Brooks) tries to figure out her marriage, Toni (Jill Marie Jones) is a self- centered real estate agent, and Lynn (Persia White) stays in college to avoid any kind of responsibility, and on top of that she has a sex addiction. But there is one thing they have in common: true friendship.

9. The Nanny (1993-1999)

Fran Drescher is my hero. This woman has went through hell, but she kept her sense of humor and created one of the funniest TV-Shows of all time. Sure, the voice can be a little annoying at times but once you get used to it, you can’t help but laugh.

Storyline:
The flashy Fran Fine (Fran Drescher) from Queens is living with her mother because her fiancee – who she also worked for – left her for another woman. Now she is trying to sell cosmetics walking from door to door in the rich neighborhoods of New York. When she arrives at the Shephield’s mansion she doesn’t make a sale, but gets hired as a nanny. Her job: looking after the children and making sure they don’t do anything bad. Her mission: Spicing up their boring lives.

10. Cougar Town (2009- )

This show cannot be cancelled. After three seasons ABC decided to drop it, so TBS took over and tried to give the show and aired a fourth season. It didn’t lose its charm and actually got funnier. It was successful enough to be renewed for a fifth season. Long live Cortney Cox and her wine drinking family.

Storyline:
Jules (Cortney Cox) is divorced and in her mid-forties, trying to figure out what to do with her life. She gets plenty of help from her frustrated neighbor Ellie (Christa Miller), her crazy ex- husband Bobby (Brian Van Holt) and her trashy friend Laurie (Busy Philipps). Their major activities: drinking wine.
