TV- Review: Instant Mom (2013- ) – An Instant Success!
Category: Comedy
Actors: Tia Mowry-Hardrict, Michael Boatman, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Sydney Park, Tylen Jacob Williams, Damarr Calhoun
Channel: Nickelodeon
Duration: 21 min
Rated: PG
Tia Mowry is back, but this time she came without her twin sister Tamara, who she was last seen with on the Hit TV Show Sister Sister (1994-1999) besides a few TV-Productions and guest appearances on several TV-Shows. And while in my opinion Tamara has always been the funnier one, Tia proves that she can be hilarious herself.
Instant Mom is about a woman in her late twenties who likes to party, but when she meets the man of her dreams, things change drastically: Stephanie and Charlie get married, and with him come three children.
I hardly watch Nickelodeon, especially since I think many shows are really just targeted at children until the age of 15. But apparently they have a new target group: Moms. Instant Mom blew me away from the very fist episode. I fell in love with each character, and I had a smile on my face through the entire show. The children are not annoying or acting overly grown like they do in so many shows these days; they act like children: sometimes funny, clueless, sneaky, or just adorable. I look at them and want a family like that.
Sheryl Lee Ralph rounds it all up with her laugh out loud performances. I remember her from Moesha (1996-2001) , starring Brandy Norwood, but I do not recall her ever being that funny. It seems like this is the character she was meant to be.
Instant Mom is instant fun and an instant success; it’s the perfect family show, since everyone has a character they can identify themselves with. Catch it Sundays on NickatNight and NickMom.
