Review:
Misfits has been out since 2009 and has only about 6 to 8 episodes per season; however, since the show is very fast- paced, I think this amount is appropriate. So far I have only watched the first two seasons and about 2 episodes of the third, but I was blown away. There is so much creativity in the script, and motivation coming from the actors, which makes it easy to get addicted to the show. If you think this is just a lazy copy of Heroes you are wrong, because the protagonists are actually anti-heroes in my opinion, and the title of the show suggests that. Sure they try to prevent bad things from happening, but
1. Some of those super powers are very questionable (how will it help anyone if their power makes people want to sleep with you whenever they touch you?)
2. The ones that do have abilities that could be considered superpowers don’t really use them wisely
and 3. They are clueless teenagers who don’t really seem to care about their lives. Even as “superheroes” they don’t know where they belong.

Even though this isn’t necessarily the crowd you might identify yourself with, it is hard to turn away, because it is strangely appealing and since it is a European show, we get a lot of cursing, sex and inappropriate behavior. Misfits proves yet again that British Shows are very much in trend right now, and can definitely compete with some big US- TV- Shows, even though they might have less special effects.

What I didn’t like so much about Misfits, and the reason why I haven’t continued watching the show, is that they get rid of too many characters too fast – which doesn’t necessarily mean they die – and in season 4 there is a whole new cast. The reason for that seems to be that the first two seasons have been such a huge success that most of the actors have been offered different projects which forced them to leave Misfits behind. I think I will continue watching pretty soon though.

Misfits is weird, immature, inappropriate, and lots of fun. If you are not hooked by the third episode, which I am pretty sure you will be, you might not want to to stick around. It’s a love it or hate it- show.

I have also read that they are currently working on an US version of the show.

Rating: 7.5/10

  1. I LOVE Misfits. We are currently watching series 5. You should totally stick with it. It’s worth watching for Rudy (new character from season 3).
