The Story: The Show evolves around 5 Hispanic maids and their eccentric, weird, self-centered employees in Beverly Hills. One of them, however gets killed, after being confronted by the woman of the house about the affair she’s been having with her husband. No one knows who the killer is. Suddenly a new maid is in the picture: the beautiful Marisol. Where did she come from? And what are her intentions?
Review: This summer seems to bring more drama than ever. Devious Maids starts off extremely dramatic, but comes off like an over the top telenovela, which is almost annoying. But when Ana Ortiz enters the stage it gets interesting and the show starts to develop its charm. The only good actors in my opinion are the maids – which is good I guess, since the shows is mainly about them – but the employees are mainly washed out soap opera stars who can’t give their characters any charm or depth. Maybe this is what the writers wanted, but I don’t like it. I have mixed feelings about the future of that show, but Ana Ortiz gives me hope.
Rating: 6/10 – one point for each maid and an extra one for Ana Ortiz. 🙂
Hit-Potential: 75%
***UPDATE 18 JULY: So far Susan Lucci’s characters got a little more interesting and had a few funny moments. Also, the story slowly revealed a few more twists. It is still a 6/10, but it definitely got better.
***Update 23 March 2014: I learned to like the characters, even the ones I wasn’t fond of at first. The storyline revealed many twists and turns and the finale left you wanting more. I laughed, I cried… well, not really, but I am definitely looking forward to April 20.
